Sabres sign Ville Leino, much to the disapointment of Italian forward Gino Villalino

Newest Buffalo Sabre Ville Leino

On the 1st day of free agency, the Buffalo Sabres signed Flyers free-agent forward Ville Leino to a 6 year 27 million dollar contract. When Italian Hockey sensation Gino Villalino heard the news, he thought his day had finally come.

“When I a heard onna Marconi thata Buffalo signed Villalino, I screamed ‘Momma Mia!’ Sumbody a betta pinch me!”

Unfortunately for Villalino, he soon found out that it was a case of mistaken identity. A first-line forward for the Flyers de Salerno, Villalino has scored 256 goals in his 4 year career in the Italian Hockey League, more than 10 times the goals scored by Ville Leino in his 2 years in the NHL. But Villalino is taking the disappointing news in stride. “Whaddayagonnado?” Villalino sighed, “Ima gonna keep a workin’, and a gonna keep a practicin’, and one a day Ima gonna be a star!!”

The agency representing Villalino, Omertá Sports, seemed less than amused. “Fugeddaboutit. We believe the Buffalo Sabres entered into a contract with our client, and we intend to make them honor that contract…”, stated Omerta spokesman Silvio “Fancy-Pants” Ferroggiaro “…or else.”

When asked about the confusion, Sabres GM Darcy Regier was heard to say “I’m sure Villalino is a great hockey player, but it was his mistake, not ours.”

It seems that “Fancy-Pants” Ferroggiaro isn’t taking no for an answer. “We plan on paying this Regier pompinaio a little visit”, says Ferroggiaro. When asked what happens if Regier still refused to sign his player, Ferroggiaro quipped, “Then we will show him the true meaning of ‘Hockey Heaven'”.
